At 19, Ben Francis had no marketing budget and no company history — what he had was years spent as a genuine fan of fitness YouTubers, so when Gymshark launched he mailed products to creators he already trusted rather than running ads, building a $1.45B company without outside investment. The piece uses that story alongside LinkedIn data (founder posts reportedly get 561% more reach than company pages, and most consumers say they trust and buy from companies whose founders are visibly active) to argue that in a company’s early years, before there’s any track record, the founder’s personal presence is the brand — and lays out a simple starting point: pick one platform your customers already use and post weekly about the problem you’re obsessed with solving.
